On Wednesday 9th April the Rampworx outreach project team landed at Skelmersdale’s Birch Green skatepark. Complete with a 7 and a half tonne truck and a shed load of treats including portable ramps, BMX’s, boards, skates and safety equipment… We arrived early and were surprised to find a large gathering of eager local young people keen to grab a board, bike, or pair of skates and try their hand at one of extreme sports that we offer.
Unfortunately a huge downpour had ensured that the whole skatepark and the surrounding grassy area was drowning in pools of water… however, our collective spirits were not dampened as the clouds soon cleared and within half an hour the kids were kitted up and ready to go.. Our resident coaches, Leon, Sean and Perry were soon hard at work helping young people as young as 5 get to grips with adrenalin sports..
Overall the day went great! Over 50 young people attended the event and had a great time. Free T-shirts, stickers, passes, memberships and a host of other goodies were handed out to excited skaters as we ensured that their day was memorable, particularly as many of the young people had never even touched a pair of skates before never mind stand up in them. By the end everyone had at least walked away with a positive experience and better extreme sports skills…
